Papers relating to the life and activities of Reaugh include materials concerning his studies at the School of Fine Arts in St. Louis, Missouri, and at the Julien Academie in Paris, France; documents concerning his teaching activities at Baylor University (Waco); letters to L. Oscar Griffith; materials concerning his invention of the Limacon pump and to the Limacon Pump and Motor Company; biographical notes, speeches, clippings, lists of paintings, programs, and other materials documenting Reaugh's art career. Also included are 496 color slides of Reaugh's works, original drawings by Reaugh and his students, and printed art reproductions, primarily from magazines and collected by Reaugh.

Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1875, Samuel Edward Gideon's formal education included the study of architecture at M.I.T. and Harvard, as well as a degree from the School of Fine Arts (Fontainebleau, France). He taught at Texas A&M and M.I.T. before becoming a professor at the University of Texas in 1913.
